Catch up Chapter 3

Chapter 4

Shannon’s day off was not turning out as he’d planned. When he was finally ready to leave the station he discovered that his motorcycle had a flat tire. It took an hour to change because he didn’t have a spare at the station. He’d have to remember to get one. When he finally got home, it was to discover that his front porch had been TP’d by the neighborhood kids. This didn’t bother him because he knew that it was just a little prank to welcome him home.

Once in bed, he couldn’t get his mind off the day’s events and that lovely woman he had seen crying. He knew he had seen her somewhere and his mind wasn’t going to let him rest until he’d figured out where. About two hours into searching his memory for an answer, it came to him. She had been at a New Year’s Eve party last year with his friend Toni from college. If he was remembering correctly her name is Maya Franklin. When he met her she seemed like a nice enough person.

Shannon couldn’t have been asleep for more than thirty minutes, when he heard someone knocking on the door. Unconsciously he thought, “What else could go wrong?” Then he stopped himself because with the luck he was having today, it was best not to tempt fate. When Shannon looked though the peephole he was totally surprised to see Toni standing there, as if his earlier thoughts had conjured her up.

Toni was a good friend of his and had been since they’d first met, but she knew that she should call before coming over because of the odd hours he kept. Shannon was ready to rag on her when he opened the door, that was until he saw the condition she was in. Her lip was bleeding, her eye and cheek was bruised and she looked like is hadn’t bathed in days.

What in the hell could have happened to her? Where were her husband Keenan and their son Dustin? He only hoped they were in better shape then she was. The first thought that Shannon was that she must have been robbed or something and she didn’t want them to see her in her present condition, so she came to him.

Without speaking, he helped her inside, guided her to the bathroom, and ran her a bath. When she came out of the bathroom he had already made the bed in the guest room for her. She slowly got in, make herself comfortable, and before he could turn off the lights he could hear her snoring softly.
